There are many unwanted organisms that are present in the food that we eat and the water we drink. This is why many individuals use natural detox products to help fight against these substances. Since a great deal of the foods people already eat have unwanted organisms in them, it's important for individuals to try to eat as healthy as possible, and encourage positive eating habits in their children.
Now that it's back-to-school time, it's more important than ever for children to eat healthy. Recently, Tennessee Today published some tips from Hollie Raynor, assistant professor of nutrition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville offered some tips for how to help kids eat right when they head back to school.
The most important meal
According to the expert, it's extremely important to send children off to school with a healthy breakfast. WebMD states that a child's growing body and developing brain depend on a regular intake of food. When a child does not eat breakfast, he or she may experience physical, intellectual or behavioral problems.
Raynor recommended a breakfast of a non-sugary cereal with yogurt or fruit. Furthermore, she suggested that if a child doesn't like breakfast foods, then parents shouldn't be afraid of going with non-traditional morning meal such as a sandwich or soup.
Pack a lunch or learn the menu
Packing a child's lunch puts the parents in control of what their child is eating while they are away from the home. Pack a lunch with fruits, vegetables, dairy and a good source of protein, such as lean chicken. For a snack, go with pretzels or rice cakes instead of chips.
If a child is going to have school lunch, parents should keep a copy of the menu on their fridge so they can know what the healthy options are and encourage their kid to choose them.
Set a good example
Finally, Raynor said that parents can promote healthy eating habits in children by setting an example in their own behavior.
"One of the most important ways to encourage children to make healthy choices is for parents to model that behavior," Raynor said. "Smart grocery shopping also is important. If you don’t want your children to eat junk food, don’t bring it in the house."
